Protesters Restricted To Specific Locations In Edo State

Protesters demonstrating against the harsh economy have been restricted to specific locations across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

According to Edo State Police Commissioner Funsho Adegboye, the peaceful protest in Edo South would take place at King Square in Benin City.

In a news briefing late on Wednesday, he also assured the people that the police would be professional and civil, protecting nonviolent protesters and perhaps providing water and ambulance assistance.

He, however, warned that gatherings in the guise of a protest at other venues would be deemed criminal and highly frowned upon

The commissioner also announced that a situation room had been established at the command headquarters to receive feedback and updates.

On Thursday, areas outside the designated protest venue were devoid of the normal bustle. Upper Mission Road in the state capital, which is mostly residential, was nearly bare of commuters and commercial cars .
