Paris Saint-Germain secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday after defeating Liverpool 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out, following a dramatic last-16 tie between the two clubs.
After losing 1-0 in the first leg in Paris, PSG leveled the tie on aggregate with an early goal from Ousmane Dembélé at Anfield. Despite numerous chances from both sides, no more goals were scored during the 90 minutes or extra time, leading to a tense penalty shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma became the hero, saving penalties from Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones. On the other hand, PSG’s shooters kept their composure, with Vitinha, Gonçalo Ramos, Dembélé, and Désiré Doué all converting their kicks to seal the victory.
The French champions, who have yet to win the prestigious tournament, now look ahead to a quarter-final tie next month, where they will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge. Villa, who lead 3-1 from the first leg, will host the Belgian side on Wednesday.
