Ramadan: Gov Fintiri Reiterates Need for Tolerance, Orderly Conduct

Adamawa state Governor, Umaru Fintiri has urged the Muslim Ummah, to put the fear of Allah in all their dealings and pray that Allah will use the commencement of the Ramadan period, to put a stop to violence and other social vices being witnessed in some parts of the country.

The governor made this known in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Unmwashi Wonosikou to mark the commencement of the 2024 Ramadan fast.

Fintiri said that the period of abstinence calls for behavioural change and religious tolerance among all ethnic groups, and the need for obedience to laws aimed at achieving orderliness in the country.

Apart from Ramadan being a period of abstinence, Fintiri said it should also be a period of moderation and shunning of those things that are unlawful while urging the Ummah to offer Zakat during Ramadan.

Marking the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan for many of the world’s 1.8 billion Muslims, officials announced the sighting of the crescent moon Sunday night in Saudi Arabia.

The sacred month sees those observing abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset.

After the Saudi state television reported that authorities there saw the crescent moon, multiple Gulf Arab nations, as well as Iraq, Syria and Egypt followed the announcement to confirm they as well would start fasting on Monday.
