Resident doctors raise alarm over abductions, call for government intervention

The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA), has expressed serious concerns about the alarming and recurring abductions of healthcare workers across Nigeria.

During a press conference, ARD-FCTA President, Dr. Rahman Olayinka, called on the government at all levels to take immediate action to address the worsening security situation.

Olayinka’s comments came as the association announced its 2024 Annual Health Week and Annual General Meeting/Scientific Conference, themed “Safeguarding the Nigerian Healthcare System.” He described the abductions as a major issue, noting that insecurity is a key factor driving doctors to seek better opportunities abroad, alongside the ongoing challenge of inadequate welfare.

He also pointed out that healthcare workers, including members of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), have consistently raised concerns with the government regarding issues such as salaries, working conditions, and security.

However, Olayinka lamented that these critical concerns remain largely unresolved.
