A retired Controller of Works at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, AbdulRazaq Ajani, was tragically murdered in Ilorin, Kwara State, on January 1, 2025. Ajani was attacked by four young men who trailed him to his residence in the Tanke area shortly after he returned from a New Year visit to his hometown, Offa.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when Ajani and his family arrived home. According to a family member, the assailants casually entered the compound and, after a brief exchange with the retired officer, attacked him. CCTV footage reviewed by the family showed two of the attackers standing by the gate, while the other two entered the compound. Ajani reportedly approached them at the door, where he was suddenly struck and left lying face down.
An eyewitness reported that the murder was carried out in the presence of Ajani’s wife and children, with graphic details of bloodstains and a brutal scene inside the house. The police have confirmed the incident and have begun an investigation, though no suspects have been arrested so far.
Ajani had retired from the Federal Ministry of Works four years ago, but he was rehired on a contract in 2024. The investigation is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of the former federal officer.
