Rising Insecurity: Defence Minister Seeks A Whole-Of-Society Approach To Surmount Challenges

With rising insecurity and its attendant loss of lives and property in Nigeria, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, has encouraged Nigerians to trust the process as he aims to tackle the security challenges in the country.

The Minister made the appeal when he received a delegation from Jigawa State led by Governor Umar Namadi who paid him a courtesy visit at Ship House in Abuja.

Speaking on insecurity situation in the country, the Minister said that though the task before them was enormous, but they were determined to surmount the challenges.

While kinetic and non-kinetic approaches are essential in dealing with insecurity, the Minister resorted to support and prayers for him to succeed in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of insecurity in the country.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the governor of Jigawa state Malam Umar Namadi for bringing a large deligation from different strata of Jigawa state to congratulate me. It is impressive and I am thrilled with this delegation.

“I ask them to continue to pray for us and pray for the nation to succeed,” he said.

He explained that he was overwhelmed with the gesture of solidarity, prayer and well wishes extended to him, saying that it would spur him to do much more to the nation and humanity.

On his part, Governor Namadi expressed confidence in the ability of Minister Badaru to weather every raging storm.

He assured Nigerians that Badaru will succeed in the assignment given to him by the President.

“We know how he succeeded in Jigawa state, we have come to pray for him so that he will achieve the same status or more as the Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“What I expect from him is success. This is a man that always succeeds in whatever he does. As a business man he has succeeded in his business, as the Governor of Jigawa state he succeeded. He kept a record that will be too difficult to break.

“It is the same thing that we expect him to do at the national level. We want him to deal with the issue of insecurity in Nigeria. ”

He said he brought a large delegation to congratulate the governor and wish him well on his new assignment.

He said: “This is a man that is very accommodating, this is a man that has a large heart , this is a man that has the people at heart always.

“We feel that since he has been honoured by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we have to come and say congratulations. Not only to say congratulations but to pray for him,” Governor Namadi averred.
