Rivers crisis: Tinubu urges political actors to respect court rulings

President Bola Tinubu has called on political stakeholders in Rivers State to respect court rulings and uphold the rule of law to help restore peace in the state, which has been affected by ongoing crises.

In a statement titled “President Tinubu Calls for Adherence to the Rule of Law to Restore Peace in Rivers State,” signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President made the appeal following a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Tinubu expressed his gratitude for the support, prayers, and concerns from the PANDEF leaders. “I am here by the grace of God, appreciating your support, prayers, and concern. I cannot complain. I campaigned for this position and begged for the job. I must do it with all my heart, whatever it takes. I will make sure we achieve our promises and goals,” the President assured the delegation.

Emphasizing the importance of respecting judicial decisions, Tinubu stated that adherence to the rule of law is crucial for the stability of the country’s democracy. He urged all stakeholders to honor and implement court rulings, stating, “This is a nation governed by the rule of law. I should not be here as President without a rule of law. I have total confidence in our judiciary. We have expectations. Human beings can make errors. But once the court has spoken, that is it.”

Tinubu then urged PANDEF leaders to take proactive steps in ensuring that court rulings are enforced and respected in Rivers State.
