Rivers Govt Clarifies Supreme Court Ruling, Affirms Pending Legal Cases

The Rivers State Government has clarified that its ongoing legal challenges concerning the leadership of the State House of Assembly and the status of members who defected in December 2023 remain active before the Supreme Court.

This clarification comes in response to recent reports suggesting otherwise.

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, addressed the matter in a Facebook post.

He explained that the Supreme Court’s decision on February 10, 2025, pertained specifically to an Appeal Court judgment requiring Governor Fubara to re-present the 2024 budget to the Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule.

Given that the 2024 budget has already been fully utilized, Governor Fubara deemed it unnecessary to pursue the appeal further, leading to its withdrawal.

Ehie emphasized that this withdrawal does not affect other pending cases, particularly those concerning the Assembly members who switched parties in December 2023.
