Rivers NSCDC Gets New State Commandant, Vows to Tackle Oil Theft

The Commandant General, of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi has deployed Joachim Okafor to Rivers State as the new State Commandant.

Joachim Okafor replaced Basil Igwebueze who is now deployed to the Corpse Headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking during a brief handing-over ceremony at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Joachim Okafor promised to collaborate with critical stakeholders in Rivers State to enhance the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure as well as the protection of lives and property.

According to a statement by the Corps Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, SC Olufemi Ayodele, the new commandant also pledged to work in synergy with the Government, all sister security agencies, community and religious leaders, civil society organisation, the media, and others in combating crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, environmental degradation and other associated crimes in the State.

Commandant Okafor who thanked the Commandant General Abubakar Audi for the privilege to serve, pledged to work relentlessly to promote the integrity of the Corps while serving the nation with utmost dedication.

Also speaking, the Zone L Commander in charge of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River; Assistant Commandant General, (ACG) Ayinla Olowo said the new commandant is an experienced, highly resourceful and dedicated officer who has served in various capacities in NSCDC formations across the nation.

The ACG, Zone L Commander further hinted that posting and deployment of officers within the NSCDC is not a punishment, but an opportunity to enhance their performance and develop potential.

He appreciated the dedication of the immediate past commandant and charged the Rivers State Command officers and men to be disciplined, remain loyal to the high command of the NSCDC, and be dedicated to the service of the nation.

Until his deployment, Commandant Joachim Okafor was the Corps State Commandant, Niger State where he made massive arrests of suspects vandalizing railway tracks, and slippers, intervened and curbed farmers-herders clashes, enhance capacity building, training and retraining of officers and men amongst others.
