Rivers State Government Suspends All Political Appointees

The Rivers State Government has announced the suspension of all political office holders and appointees across the state, effective immediately.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator of Rivers State confirmed that the suspension was enacted under the powers granted to the state’s Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, by President Bola Tinubu.

The suspension affects a wide range of officials, including:

  • The Secretary to the State Government (SSG)
  • The Chief of Staff
  • All Honourable Commissioners
  • Chairmen and members of various boards, councils, agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals
  • All Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants

In line with the directive, suspended officials are instructed to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Where there is no Permanent Secretary in place, the most senior Director or Head of Administration will assume control.

The suspension, which took effect on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, marks a significant shift in the state’s political administration.

For further details, the full statement from the Rivers State Government is available for review.

Signed,
The Chief of Staff to the Administrator
