Rivers State Governor, Approves Immediate Promotion and Benefits for Local Government Workers

In a significant move aimed at improving the welfare of local government workers in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the immediate promotion of these workers along with full financial benefits.

The approval came during a private meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where Governor Fubara met with principal officers from the 23 local government areas and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

During the meeting, Governor Fubara also sanctioned the immediate implementation of a minimum wage of N30,000.00 for local government workers, as well as the implementation of the N35,000.00 wage award approved by the Federal Government to offset the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Additionally, he approved the inclusion of NULGE as a member of the Local Government Pensions Board, in accordance with the law, and endorsed the implementation of a consolidated salary structure for local government workers retiring at grade level 17.

The decisions made by Governor Fubara have been welcomed by the Rivers State chapter of NULGE, which expressed appreciation for the approvals.

In a statement issued by State President Clifford Paul, NULGE pledged its support to the administration of Governor Fubara.

The welfare of local government employees in Rivers State has long been a matter of concern, with workers advocating for their rights and benefits. Issues such as non-promotion for several years and the delay in implementing the N30,000 minimum wage have been prominent grievances among the workers.
