Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a stern warning to those who may misinterpret his commitment to implementing the presidential peace pact as a sign of weakness.
Addressing concerns regarding his administration’s approach to the ongoing political crisis, Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of respecting agreements made under the guidance of national leadership.
In his address to officers of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) during a solidarity rally, Governor Fubara reiterated his dedication to upholding peace initiatives brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
He clarified that while his compliance with the peace pact was out of respect for the presidency, any attempts to exploit his cooperative stance would be met with decisive action.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the implementation of the peace agreement was a political solution to a complex issue, underscoring his administration’s commitment to fostering stability in Rivers State.
He warned against misconstruing his adherence to the agreement as a sign of vulnerability, affirming his readiness to defend his administration’s integrity and the interests of the state.
Acknowledging the support of NULGE and other labor unions, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude for their recognition of his administration’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare.
He assured civil servants of his administration’s commitment to addressing their concerns and facilitating their contributions to the state’s development.
However, Governor Fubara also cautioned against potential disruptions to governance, particularly in response to threats of impeachment from the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He emphasized the need for constructive dialogue and cooperation to resolve disagreements, warning against any attempts to undermine the peace process.
In addition to addressing labor union representatives, Governor Fubara engaged with members of the Forum of Rivers State Government Teachers pursuing transfers to tertiary institutions.
He assured them of his administration’s commitment to addressing their requests and emphasized the importance of preparing for any necessary screening processes.
