
The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 90 individuals suspected of engaging in cybercrimes aimed at defrauding innocent Nigerians.
The arrests, made in collaboration with other security agencies, took place after credible intelligence led officers to the suspects’ hideout in the state.
According to the Rivers State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service YI Abdulmajeed, a total of 94 people were arrested in connection with the cybercrime activities. Profiling revealed that 85 of the suspects are from Cameroon, five from Chad, and four are Nigerian nationals. Among the group, 74 are males and 20 females.
It was discovered that all 90 foreign nationals had entered the country through unauthorized entry points and failed to present any valid travel documents or residence cards upon interrogation. Two Nigerians from Rivers State, who had provided accommodation for the foreign nationals, were also arrested for their involvement.
Abdulmajeed confirmed that the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has directed the necessary steps to be taken to ensure the prompt repatriation of the foreign suspects to their respective countries of origin.
