A pro-Governor Siminalayi Fubara group, the Supreme Council for Sim Worldwide, has issued a strong warning against any attempt to impeach the Rivers State governor, cautioning that such an action could lead to widespread unrest.
During a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, a leader of the group, Esezi Obilor Rukani, urged the 27 lawmakers pushing for Fubara’s removal to reconsider their actions, emphasizing that the people of Rivers State would strongly resist any effort to oust the governor.
Rukani stated, “We all know the impeachment process. Before it even begins, the state will erupt because the governor is loved by the masses. The governor might not take any action, but the people who voted for the lawmakers will certainly have something to say to them.”
His comments followed a call by the Rivers State APC chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, for Fubara’s resignation or impeachment, citing alleged abuse of the rule of law. Okocha also warned that lawmakers pursuing the impeachment could face recall by their constituents.
Rukani questioned the grounds for calls to remove Fubara, insisting that the governor had committed no wrongdoing. He reaffirmed the group’s unwavering support for Fubara and made it clear that any attempt to remove him would be met with strong resistance.
Similarly, Ambassador Joshua Fubara, the Convener and National Leader of the group, highlighted the governor’s achievements and dismissed the impeachment calls as unfounded.
He urged all political factions to work together for the progress and development of the state, warning that instability in Rivers State, a key contributor to the nation’s economy, could have far-reaching national consequences.
