Ruling on Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan’s Bail Application Delayed Due to Judge’s Absence

A ruling on the bail application for Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of Binance Holdings Limited, was postponed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday because the presiding judge was unavailable.

Although the decision was expected to be delivered on Wednesday , the court session was canceled as judges attended a seminar at the National Judicial Institute. The ruling has now been adjourned until Friday.

Gambaryan and Binance were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in April on charges of money laundering. His initial bail request was denied by the court on May 17. Following that denial, Gambaryan collapsed in court due to health issues, raising concerns about his well-being in Kuje prison.

His legal team and family have expressed fears for his life, stating that his health is deteriorating. His wife, Yuki, highlighted the urgency of his condition, stating he requires “highly specialized and risky surgery” for a herniated disc. In response to these health concerns, the presiding judge issued an arrest warrant against Abraham Ehizojie, a medical doctor at the Kuje correctional facility, for failing to provide Gambaryan’s medical report.

On September 2, the EFCC contested the health claims made by Gambaryan’s legal team, with counsel Ekele Iheanacho arguing that his medical issues are not as severe as portrayed.

Additionally, Gambaryan’s legal team filed another bail application on August 28, citing medical grounds for his release, but the prosecution filed a counter affidavit opposing this request.
