Russia Downs 77 Ukrainian Drones in Overnight Barrage, Continuing Air Defense Operations

Russia’s defense ministry reported Thursday that it had successfully intercepted and downed 77 Ukrainian drones overnight, following a significant strike on Moscow earlier in the week. According to the ministry, 30 drones were destroyed over the Bryansk region, located on Russia’s western border with Ukraine, while another 25 were downed over Kaluga. Additional drones were intercepted in other regions, including Kursk, Voronezh, Rostov, and Belgorod.
This latest drone strike comes just days after Russia’s defense forces downed more than 90 Ukrainian drones in the Moscow region on Tuesday, which the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, labeled as the “most massive enemy drone attack on Moscow.” The assault on Moscow caused significant disruption and resulted in three deaths, as well as several injuries. On Tuesday, Russian forces intercepted 337 Ukrainian drones across the country.
In a separate report on Thursday, Ukrainian cities faced renewed attacks, including a deadly strike in Kherson. Regional military administration head Roman Mrochko confirmed that a 42-year-old woman was killed in the attack. Authorities in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk also reported incoming attacks on Thursday morning.
This escalation in the use of drones signals a continued intensification of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine as both sides adapt to new methods of warfare.
