“Saheed Osupa Drops Defamation Lawsuit Against Portable”

Fuji music legend Saheed Osupa has officially called off his defamation case against controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

This development comes shortly after Portable was remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin for failing to meet bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court in Kwara State on Monday, April 14.

The 31-year-old singer had been granted bail set at ₦1 million, with the stipulation that two sureties be provided—one being an official from the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) with a certified title.

Portable was arrested on Sunday, April 13, following a petition from Osupa, who accused him of defamation, threats to life, inciting public disorder, and copyright infringement.

In a new statement released by Osupa’s camp, they confirmed the withdrawal of the case, explaining that their initial legal action was aimed at setting a standard for accountability in the music industry. According to the statement, Portable’s conduct had crossed the line with repeated defamatory remarks and what they viewed as blatant disregard for intellectual property rights.

They emphasized that the decision to drop the charges was guided by compassion, with hopes that it would mark a turning point in Portable’s personal growth and career path.

However, the withdrawal comes with conditions. Osupa’s team outlined three non-negotiable terms: Portable must publicly retract his defamatory statements, admit to making false claims, and sign a formal undertaking pledging to refrain from similar actions in the future.

While it remains to be seen how Portable will respond, this move by Osupa could signal a path toward resolution—and perhaps redemption—for one of Nigeria’s most polarizing music figures.
