Sanwo-Olu, Pernod Ricard to unveil eco-friendly tree

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says he will unveil an eco-friendly Christmas tree made from upcycled bottles as part of efforts to promote sustainability and environmental awareness. The tree, created by Pernod Ricard Nigeria, will be revealed at the Ikeja City Mall car park on December 21, 2024.

Named the “Lagos Upcycled Bottle Christmas Tree,” the structure is crafted from approximately 2,500 empty Jameson bottles. The festive display carries the theme “Sustainability Meets Festivity” and aims to highlight the importance of circular economies while engaging the community in environmental responsibility.

Michael Ehindero, Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, described the project as a fusion of art and responsibility. He emphasized that the initiative promotes sustainability, showcasing creative reuse of materials to encourage community engagement and social responsibility.

The unveiling will kick off a 12-day activation, coinciding with the “Twelve Days of Christmas” and reinforcing the company’s commitment to inspiring young Nigerians toward sustainable practices. Ehindero also noted that the partnership with the Lagos State government reflects Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision for sustainable development and a circular economy.

Pernod Ricard Nigeria hopes the eco-friendly tree will inspire Lagosians to adopt environmentally conscious practices throughout the festive season.
