In a significant security breakthrough, a combined team of security operatives and vigilantes has successfully neutralized a notorious Lakurawa terrorist, Maigemu, in Kebbi State.
The operation, which took place on Thursday in the remote area of Kuncin Baba, Arewa Local Government, followed a fierce gun battle between the suspect and security forces.
AbdulRahman Usman Zagga, the Director of Security in Kebbi State, confirmed the operation’s success in a statement to the press on Friday, revealing that Maigemu was killed after a prolonged exchange of gunfire.
The rugged terrain of Kuncin Baba posed additional challenges for the operation, but the security forces remained steadfast in their mission to bring the notorious criminal to justice.
This operation follows closely on the heels of a visit by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), to the communities of Bagiza and Rausa Kade in Arewa Local Government. Governor Idris had visited these areas last week to mourn with residents after six people were killed by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers.
During his visit, the governor reassured the affected communities of increased security measures and promised immediate reinforcements.
“This achievement today is a direct result of the governor’s proactive measures and his commitment to securing the state,” Zagga remarked. “The elimination of this notorious criminal serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the security reinforcements promised by Governor Idris.
His swift action has now delivered concrete results, with Maigemu’s body serving as undeniable evidence of the operation’s success.”
Zagga also lauded the governor’s unwavering support for security operations, particularly for providing essential resources and logistical support to operatives engaged in high-risk operations.
He urged residents to continue cooperating with security forces by sharing intelligence and reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing that the fight against criminality requires a collective effort from all corners of the state.
The successful neutralization of Maigemu marks a decisive blow to the Lakurawa criminal network, offering a glimmer of hope for the restoration of peace and security in Kebbi State.
