Senate spokesman, Yemi Adaramodu, has criticized his colleague, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, over a seating arrangement dispute in the Senate chamber. Natasha, who represents Kogi Central under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had on Thursday refused to sit in the seat assigned to her, citing Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules, which safeguards the privileges of members.
The situation escalated when Senate President Godswill Akpabio instructed Senate security to escort the female lawmaker out of the chamber. However, intervention from fellow lawmakers prevented the situation from worsening.
In an interview with newsmen, Adaramodu emphasized that the National Assembly is a place for serious work. “What we are saying is that the National Assembly is not for content creation in entertainment. It is for serious business,” he stated.
The Senate spokesman, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District, also dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations of bullying. However, he ruled out any disciplinary action against her, noting that her colleagues from Kogi State, including Senator Isah Jubril, had already apologized on her behalf.
Adaramodu assured that the 10th Senate would not revisit the issue following the apology tendered on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s behalf.
