Senate Leaders Pledge Support for Creation of “Karaduwa” State in Katsina

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has expressed his commitment to work alongside Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, the Senator for Funtua Senatorial District in Katsina State, to push for the creation of a new state in the region, to be called “Karaduwa.” The proposal is in response to the growing demand from the people of the Karaduwa area, known for their agrarian lifestyle, who have long agitated for a separate state to foster greater development and economic prosperity.

Speaking at a Ramadan food distribution and empowerment event in Funtua, Senator Jibrin expressed strong support for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial for the people. He acknowledged the difficulties but emphasized that the creation of Karaduwa state is a feasible and necessary step. “I will work with my brother, Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, to ensure the creation of a new state in Katsina called Karaduwa. The agitation is apt, and I support it despite the challenges,” Jibrin said.

The event, which aimed to distribute food items and empower women and youth, was led by Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund. He took the opportunity to highlight his efforts to improve infrastructure in the region, notably through his facilitation of the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Funtua, which is set to boost educational development in Katsina and the broader Northwest region.

Governor Dikko Radda, represented by his deputy, Hon. Faruk Jobe, also addressed the gathering, urging beneficiaries of the empowerment program not to sell the items they received and to continue praying for the state’s leadership. He further highlighted the state government’s achievements, including significant investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, and security. Notably, he mentioned the allocation of 120 billion Naira for the education sector, which has funded the construction of new secondary schools and scholarships for underprivileged students to study abroad in fields such as medicine and biotechnology.

Senator Dan-Dutse also discussed his role in ensuring that the Federal University of Medical and Health Science project in Funtua continued to receive federal attention, securing funds for its development in both the 2024 and 2025 national budgets.

The event also featured the distribution of various items across the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the Funtua Senatorial District, including fertilizer, rice, maize, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, and other essential goods. These items were intended to support local communities and bolster the livelihoods of residents in the region.

The 11 LGAs benefiting from the distribution include Bakori, Musawa, Kankara, Kafur, Faskari, Matazu, Danja, Funtua, Dandume, Malumfashi, and Sabuwa.
