Senate President Akpabio Acknowledges Citizens’ Struggles Amid Economic Reforms

Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed fellow Senators on Tuesday, acknowledging the struggles faced by citizens due to the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu. In his welcome speech marking the end of the Senate’s annual recess, Akpabio recognized the significant challenges Nigerians are enduring, including rising inflation, high living costs, and market volatility.

While expressing sympathy for those affected, Akpabio asserted that the current economic hardships should not be blamed on the Tinubu administration. He stated, “In the face of rising economic pressures, our fellow citizens have been grappling with the harsh realities of inflation and soaring living costs. These challenges have tested the very fabric of our society.”

He emphasized the National Assembly’s awareness of the difficulties faced by Nigerians and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing these issues. “We want Nigerians to know that their struggles are not lost on this side,” he said, pledging that the Senate would respond with both determination and compassion.

Akpabio praised President Tinubu for his courageous reforms, asserting that they are beginning to yield positive results. “Amidst these trials, we have seen commendable strides in various sectors from the executive arm of government,” he noted, highlighting progress in agriculture and infrastructure.

On the pressing issue of insecurity, Akpabio stressed the need for the Senate to prioritize the safety of citizens. “We must ensure that every Nigerian can walk down any street without fear,” he declared, calling for decisive legislative action to safeguard communities.

He concluded by asserting that development cannot thrive in an environment marked by insecurity, emphasizing the Senate’s commitment to creating a safer Nigeria for all.
