Senate Spokesman Denounces PDP’s Call for Senate President’s Resignation

Senator Yemi Adaramodu, spokesman for the Senate, has strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for demanding the resignation of Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, over alleged budget padding allegations.

Adaramodu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, rebuked the PDP’s claims, labeling them as baseless and aimed at misleading the public.

In his response today, Adaramodu emphasized that the PDP’s accusations of N3.7 trillion budget padding were without merit and amounted to mere chicanery.

He asserted that Senator Akpabio has no intention of resigning, as he has not committed any wrongdoing that warrants such action.

The Senate spokesman highlighted the events of Tuesday’s plenary, where the allegations were debated, and Senator Abdul Ningi, the suspended Senator from Bauchi Central, failed to substantiate his claims.

Adaramodu clarified that the budget passed by the National Assembly and signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not contain any such absurdity as alleged by the PDP.

He criticized the PDP’s leadership for their failure to comprehend the proceedings of the plenary and accused them of fabricating the N3.7 trillion figure.

Adaramodu dismissed the notion that Senator Ningi was intimidated or denied the opportunity to defend himself, stating that he was given ample opportunity but failed to provide verifiable facts.

Adaramodu defended the Senate’s decision to debate the matter in the Committee of the Whole, emphasizing transparency, justice, and fairness.

He pointed out that the proceedings were broadcast live by multiple television stations, refuting any claims of secrecy or cover-up.

In conclusion, Adaramodu reiterated the Senate’s commitment to delivering effective legislation and oversight, dismissing the PDP’s allegations as lies and distractions.

He affirmed the Senate’s determination to uphold integrity and transparency in its proceedings under the leadership of Senator Akpabio.
