Senator Tahir Munguno Replaces Senator Ali Ndume as Senate Chief Whip

In a decisive move, the Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Tahir Munguno to replace Senator Ali Ndume as the Senate Chief Whip. This resolution was reached through a voice vote, following a letter of complaint from the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Headquarters, which was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The complaint highlighted Senator Ndume’s “unbecoming utterances” and his critical stance on President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, including his remarks on the prevailing economic hardship, food scarcity, and the associated security crisis. Ndume, who represents Southern Borno, has been vocal in his critique, leading to his absence from the day’s proceedings.

Beyond losing his role as Chief Whip, Ndume has also been relieved of his position as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. He has now been reassigned to chair the Senate Committee on Tourism.

This shake-up within the Senate underscores the tension and differing opinions within the APC regarding the current administration’s handling of economic issues. Senator Munguno’s appointment is expected to bring a new dynamic to the leadership structure as the Senate navigates these challenging times.
