Seven Dead in Plane Crash in Jalisco, Mexico
At least seven people have been confirmed dead following the crash of a small aircraft in the heavily wooded region of Jalisco in western Mexico on Sunday. The aircraft, a Cessna 207, was en route from La Parota in the neighboring state of Michoacán when it went down in the remote area of Santa María del Oro, Jalisco.
According to the Jalisco Civil Protection authorities, the crash site is located in a difficult-to-reach area, which has made rescue efforts challenging. The authorities reported a preliminary death toll of seven, but the victims’ identities have not been released at this time.
In a statement on social media, Jalisco Civil Protection confirmed that the crash sparked a fire, which has since been extinguished. “Risk mitigation measures were carried out to prevent further damage,” the agency added. Officials are awaiting the arrival of forensic investigators to recover the bodies and confirm whether there were any additional casualties.
The cause of the crash remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
