
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an explosion at Quantum Steel, located along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo, which resulted in injuries to seven workers, including three expatriates.
The blast occurred on Wednesday and was reported to the Ogijo Police Division by a company staff member, Joseph Adewale. The injured individuals include four Nigerians—Daniel Bala, 28; Mutiu Olajide, 39; Godwin Solomon, 27; and Maduabuchi Onwe, 27—and three expatriates—Ajun Kumar, 37; Chandan Kumar, 50; and Rakash Kumar, 30.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, attributing the explosion to a machinery failure.
The statement read, “On March 2, 2025, at approximately 6:30 pm, an explosion from one of the factory’s machines caused severe injuries to seven workers, both Nigerian and expatriate. All victims were rushed to Rolayo Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be responding well.”
Odutola noted that detectives had visited the scene to conduct an initial assessment and gather evidence, including photographs. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion and ensure compliance with industrial safety regulations.
The police command has also urged companies and industries to prioritize workplace safety to prevent similar incidents in the future.
