Seven Killed In Plateau Fresh Attacks

A resurgence of terror attacks in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and left several others injured. The attacks, which occurred after a period of relative peace, took place in Kwata and Daffo on Tuesday night.

The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Caleb Mutfwang Brigadier General (retired) Gakji Shipi confirmed the incident, stating that the attacks are an unfortunate deviation from the recent tranquility in the area. “We have not experienced such attacks in a while, so I would not say it’s been an increase. We are investigating the situation to understand the underlying causes and find solutions,” Shipi said.

He attributed the violence to those who are dissatisfied with the peace in the region, suggesting that the attacks may be the work of individuals or groups opposed to the local stability and happiness.

The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard also confirmed the attacks, expressing profound sadness over the resurgence of violence targeting ethnic minorities despite ongoing military peacekeeping efforts. Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the BCDC, reported that the attacks in Daffo, a commercial area near a military base, resulted in the deaths of seven people.

The group lamented that nearly 10 of its members were killed in the assaults on Daffo and Kwata, which occurred simultaneously on September 3 and led to a total of sixteen deaths over the past week.

The BCDC commended the Special Task Force Operation Safe Haven for its efforts to maintain law and order in Bokkos but called for an investigation into the involvement of security personnel stationed at the nearby base in Daffo. They expressed concerns that some members of the security forces may have failed in their duties, contributing to the violence.

The Bokkos Local Government Area has recently seen a troubling increase in attacks, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
