The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on the contractor handling the State Assembly Complex project to expedite work and meet the agreed-upon deadlines as stipulated in the contract.
During an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the new Assembly Complex located along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt Local Government Area on Saturday, the retired naval chief emphasized that part of his mandate was to restore full and effective legislative activities in the state.
The project, which has been awarded to Monier Construction Company (MCC) Limited, is making noticeable progress. The complex will feature about 34 en-suite offices in a two-storey building, complete with an elevator, gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall.
In his remarks, the Sole Administrator noted that since taking office, he has observed a missing pillar in the state’s governance structure the legislature. To restore full governance, he stressed the importance of providing the legislature with a functional space.
Ibas stated, “In the last two days, I have noticed that one of the missing pillars in our governance structure is the legislature, and for them to function effectively, they need a place to work from. I am not sure if work is progressing as expected, but by the end of six months, I hope this place will be ready for those who need to use it.”
He added that the state government had fulfilled its part by providing the necessary funds and urged the contractor to adhere to the timelines set for the completion of the project.
“I was appointed to maintain law and order, ensuring that the state functions properly, and part of that is ensuring the legislature has a place to operate,” he remarked.
Ibas was accompanied by the Head of Service of the State, George Nwaeke, and was shown around the construction site by the General Manager of MCC, Omaka Oko.
The project is expected to be completed in the next six months, in line with the administrator’s vision of restoring effective governance in the state.
