The Governors of the South-West region have resolved to set up a Joint Surveillance and Monitoring Team aimed at enhancing security coordination across the area. This decision was part of the key resolutions from the South-West Governors’ Forum meeting held in Lagos on Thursday.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who chairs the Forum, shared the decision on his social media, stating the need to tackle emerging security threats with a collaborative approach. The governors emphasized the urgency of taking decisive actions to ensure the safety and stability of their communities.
Additionally, the governors voiced their support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly commending the administration for its handling of fuel distribution and the stabilization of the exchange rate. Despite challenges such as rising food prices, attributed to unscrupulous middlemen in the supply chain, the governors are working to create a State Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team and establish Aggregation Centres and Food Hubs to combat food inflation.
The Forum also praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for its positive impact on students across the South-West, encouraging eligible students to utilize the initiative. Furthermore, the governors expressed gratitude for the creation of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), based in Ibadan, and voiced their confidence in Odu’a Investment Company Limited’s management of regional assets.
The South-West Governors also discussed strengthening collaboration among agriculture commissioners to foster industrialization and infrastructure development in the region.
