Speaker Abbas condemns kidnap of workers, patients in Kaduna hospital

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has strongly condemned the invasion of a hospital and the subsequent abduction of workers and patients by gunmen in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday.

The bandits reportedly targeted the Primary Healthcare Centre in Layin Dan Auta village, Kuyello Ward, Birnin-Gwari, where they abducted two nurses and several patients, though the exact number of the latter remains unknown.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Musa Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Abbas urged security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to rescue those held captive. “The activities of bandits have become increasingly brazen, as evidenced by the recent attack on a vulnerable target like a hospital,” the statement read.

Abbas emphasized the need for urgent intervention by security forces to apprehend the abductors and ensure that no Nigerian remains in captivity. “Our security forces must act as an emergency to pursue the kidnappers and secure the release of those abducted from the health facility. It is imperative that no Nigerian kidnapped in any part of the country stays in captivity,” he said.

The Speaker also called for ongoing efforts to eradicate the threats posed by kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism across Nigeria.
