Stampede: Callous to Politicise Tragedies, APC Tackles PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded strongly to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following its criticism of the recent stampedes at palliative distribution sites across the country that led to several deaths. APC spokesperson Felix Morka, in a statement, condemned the PDP’s response as “callous.”

Morka expressed that, during a time of national mourning over the tragic incidents in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, the PDP chose to politicize the situation, engaging in “callous political chicanery” instead of offering genuine sympathy. He reminded Nigerians that the PDP had not forgotten the 2014 Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment exercise that led to the deaths of several job seekers due to poor planning.

He criticized the PDP for using the tragedy to attack the APC-led government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, rather than showing empathy towards the victims and their families. “The tragedies have united well-meaning Nigerians in mourning, focusing on how such incidents could have been prevented with better planning and organization,” he said, extending condolences to the victims’ families.

Morka further denounced the PDP’s actions as “grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable,” pointing out that it was inappropriate to exploit such tragic events for political gain, especially when the current administration is focused on addressing the damages left by nearly two decades of PDP rule.
