State Of The Nation: Peter Obi urges Tinubu to embark on nationwide listening tour

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to embark on a nationwide tour to directly engage with the challenges facing Nigerians.

In a New Year media engagement on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, Obi noted the nation’s deteriorating economic and security conditions, noting that over 100 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty, with the GDP declining from $574 billion in 2014 to approximately $200 billion.

He criticised the administration’s handling of corruption, rising national debt, and inadequate infrastructure, particularly in healthcare and education.

To address these issues, Obi proposed that President Tinubu spend at least 72 days in 2025 visiting each of Nigeria’s 36 states.

He also suggested that the President conduct medical check-ups in local hospitals, travel by road to assess infrastructure, visit tertiary institutions to evaluate educational facilities, and engage with military formations and IDP camps to understand security challenges.

According to Obi, such direct engagement would provide the President with firsthand insight into the nation’s problems, fostering informed decision-making and demonstrating a commitment to addressing the needs of all Nigerians.
