Sudanese Army Reclaims Presidential Palace from RSF in Major Military Victory

In a dramatic shift in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, the Sudanese army has successfully recaptured the presidential palace in Khartoum from the rival paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

This marks a pivotal moment in the two-year-long war that has ravaged the country, signaling a potential turning of the tide.

Military spokesperson Nabil Abdallah made the announcement on state television, proudly declaring that the army had seized control of crucial government buildings in central Khartoum. “Our forces have completely obliterated the enemy’s fighters and seized large quantities of their equipment and weapons,” Abdallah stated, highlighting the scale of the army’s success.

Jubilant scenes followed, as soldiers were seen waving their weapons in victory, cheering, and even kneeling in prayer — a display of relief and hope that this could be a decisive moment in the war.

Since the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023, the RSF has held most of Khartoum and large swathes of western Sudan. However, the army’s recent advances, especially in central Sudan and now in the heart of the capital, suggest a shift in the balance of power.

The battle for the presidential palace was intense, with verified footage showing fierce air strikes and drone attacks around the area on Thursday. The RSF has yet to officially comment on the army’s claims, but their leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo — better known as Hemedti — has vowed to continue defending the palace and its vicinity.

In a defiant video statement released on Saturday, Hemedti warned of further attacks on northern cities, signaling that the war is far from over and promising continued resistance.

The prolonged conflict has pushed Sudan into what the United Nations has labeled the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. Millions have been displaced, and both the RSF and the army stand accused of egregious human rights violations.

Despite numerous attempts at peace talks, negotiations have consistently collapsed as both sides remain locked in a brutal struggle for control of Sudan’s strategic regions.

As the war rages on, this unexpected victory by the Sudanese army could become a crucial turning point in the fight for the future of Sudan.
