Super Eagles B Begin Closed-Camping for 8th African Nations Championship

Stand-in Head Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has called up 26 players to begin closed-camping ahead of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals, scheduled for February 2025.

The camp will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, starting on Monday, as the Super Eagles B prepare for what promises to be a challenging tournament.

Among the players selected are captain Nduka Harrison Junior, goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, defenders Sadiq Ismail and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, midfielder Saviour Isaac, and forward Sikiru Alimi. The call-up also includes experienced players like goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, defenders Imo Obot and Stephen Manyo, midfielders Musa Zayyad, Rabiu Ali, and Papa Daniel Mustapha, as well as forwards Adamu Abubakar and Emmanuel Ogbole.

The Super Eagles B secured their qualification for the CHAN finals after defeating Ghana’s Black Galaxies 3-1 in Uyo last week. This followed a goalless draw in the first leg in Accra, marking a historic achievement as they secured a place in the final tournament for the first time in the qualification series. The team will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the competition.

The 8th African Nations Championship will feature 18 teams, including joint-hosts Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, as well as other nations such as Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, and Mauritania. The tournament is set to run from February 1 to 28, 2025, and will also serve as a test run for the host nations in preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

As part of the preparation for the competition, Coach Ogunmodede will focus on team cohesion, refining tactical play, and ensuring the squad is physically and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead. With the team’s first training session set for Monday, the Super Eagles B are determined to make their mark on the continental stage and continue their impressive rise in African football.

The closed-camp in Ikenne-Remo will also allow the technical team to fine-tune individual performances, while fostering a collective team spirit ahead of the tournament. The players selected for this camp will be looking to represent Nigeria with pride, as the nation’s football community eagerly anticipates their performance in the upcoming CHAN finals.
