Super Eagles striker kelechi Iheanacho open to Sevilla return

Despite his loan move to Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough, Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho says he would welcome a return to Spanish club Sevilla.

The 28-year-old striker joined Middlesbrough on transfer deadline day, after spending only six months with the La Liga club following his free transfer from Leicester City.

“It was good to experience another environment and culture. It’s a big club and the atmosphere at the club is great,” Iheanacho told Middlesbrough’s official website.

“I love my experience there and obviously, Seville is a great place. I will always love to go back there. But I’m here now and let’s see what we can achieve.”

The former Manchester City forward, who helped Leicester win the Championship last season, expressed excitement about his return to England and the opportunity to work with Boro manager Michael Carrick.

“I’m really excited to be here and have been welcomed by the players and everybody. Everything moved quickly,” he said.

“Middlesbrough is a cultured team. The manager is a nice guy. I have spoken with him about how we are going to move forward and go up to the Premier League.”

Despite failing to score in nine La Liga appearances for Sevilla, Iheanacho remains focused on helping Middlesbrough secure promotion to the Premier League.

“I’m not a great fan of setting targets but obviously it would be collective as a team to get to the Premier League. But it’s one step at a time, we have a good team and we can work together to achieve that goal,” he added.
