Supplementary Polls: DSS Launches An Inquiry Into An Attack On Its Staff In Adamawa State
The Department of State Services (DSS) has reacted to a video making the rounds over an alleged physical abuse meted out to an individual suspected to be its staff.
The incident, which is said to have occurred in Adamawa State , is believed to be politically motivated during the Supplementary election held on Saturday, April 16 2023.
The Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, has however, in a Statement informed that ‘the Service has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident. ‘
The Service is calling for calm and has enjoined the concerned parties in Adamawa State to play by the rules.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of results of the supplementary election in Adamawa State.
Senator Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, was declared the winner of the governorship election but the Electoral Umpire suspects a foul play and has since summoned the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the State, Hudu Yunusa and all involved in the process to Abuja.
The National Commissioner, Information & Voter Education, Barr. Festus Okoye twitted that ‘the winner was declared even when the process has clearly not been concluded.’
“The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.
“Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended. The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately.”
