The Taraba State government has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for its workforce, following the December 1 strike notice issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to states that have yet to implement the updated national minimum wage.
In a statement, the state’s Head of Service, Paul Maigida Tino, confirmed that the new wage will take effect from November 2024.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workers and fulfilling their needs.
“I am pleased to inform you that His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage for state workers, effective from November 2024. This decision reflects the governor’s commitment to addressing the aspirations of our workforce,” Tino stated.
Civil servants, speaking anonymously, expressed their gratitude for the wage increase but urged the government to ensure its timely implementation.
They also called for the resumption of annual salary increments, which have been suspended for some time.
