The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a new milestone in power generation, achieving a peak output of 5,801.84 megawatts.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the TCN highlighted that this represents the highest level of daily energy ever recorded in Nigeria’s power sector. The achievement was reached on March 4, 2025, at 21:15 hours, with a stable frequency of 49.69Hz.
The generated power was efficiently transmitted and fully utilized by the country’s Distribution Companies (DisCos), ensuring improved electricity supply during peak hours.
This new achievement follows a series of incremental improvements in the power sector. Just two days prior, Nigeria recorded a peak generation of 5,713.60MW, with a daily energy supply of 125,542.06MWh. On February 14, 2025, the sector also reached a peak of 5,543.20MW, with a daily energy output of 125,159.48MWh.
The TCN emphasized that the steady increase in power generation reflects a gradual strengthening of the national grid, supported by the Federal Government, power generation companies (GenCos), TCN, and DisCos, all working together to improve electricity supply across the country.
While this achievement marks significant progress, experts note that Nigeria still requires at least 30,000MW of generation capacity to meet the needs of its over 200 million population. Nonetheless, TCN views this milestone as a testament to the continued efforts of the present administration and the power sector’s stakeholders in advancing the nation’s electricity infrastructure.
