Terrorism charges: Full-scale trial of Nnamdi Kanu holds Wednesday in Abuja

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the full-scale trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on terrorism charges will commence at the Federal High Court in Abuja Wednesday.

The terrorism charges against Kanu have been brought by the federal government, with the prosecution’s legal team expected to be led by the distinguished legal luminary, Solomon Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

On the other hand, Kanu’s defense will be handled by Aloy Ejimakor, accompanied by other eminent lawyers.

Justice Binta Fatimat Nyako is set to preside over the trial, which is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.

A retinue of operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) has taken control of the security of the court premises and the roads leading to the court to ward off possible threats to law and order.

All lawyers and litigants seeking to enter the court premises are being thoroughly frisked to prevent dangerous materials from being brought inside.

Newsmen observed that those who have no essential business at the court today are being politely turned away to avoid congestion of the court premises.

Meanwhile, Kanu is expected to be brought to the courtroom by noon amid heavy security escort.
