Tinubu appoints Agara DG NDE

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Silas Agara as the new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment.

Agara is an entrepreneur and sports administrator who previously served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State.

He succeeds Nuhu Fikpo, who was appointed in May 2021 by previous President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday by the presidency’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity Ajuri Ngelale with the title “President Tinubu appoints new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment.”

The President anticipates an “overhaul of the NDE for optimal performance in designing and implementing programmes to combat mass unemployment.”

The NDE was established in November 1986 and started operations in January 1987.

It was intended to alleviate the impacts of the 1980s economic slump, which resulted in a significant decline in capacity utilisation and the eventual closure of companies in Nigeria.
