Tinubu Hails Jonathan for Prestigious Sunhak Peace Prize Recognition

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to former President Goodluck Jonathan for being named the recipient of the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award.

The prestigious honor, which recognizes exceptional individuals contributing to global peace and development, was announced in a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.

In his message, President Tinubu lauded Jonathan’s unwavering commitment to peace, democracy, and advocacy for sustainable development, calling his contributions a testament to his patriotism and dedication to humanity. “Dr. Jonathan’s receipt of the Sunhak Peace Award is a well-deserved recognition of his tireless efforts in advancing peace and democracy, not only in Africa but across the world,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu further highlighted Jonathan’s pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s democratic standing, particularly noting his historic decision to peacefully concede in the 2015 presidential election.

This act of statesmanship, which saw Jonathan hand over power to an opposition party, significantly strengthened Nigeria’s democratic credentials on the global stage.

The President also expressed gratitude to the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee for its continued recognition of individuals and organizations making meaningful contributions to humanity. Launched in 2015, the Sunhak Peace Prize honors those advancing peace, sustainable development, conflict resolution, and environmental conservation.

Jonathan will receive the 2025 Sunhak Peace Founders’ Award in a ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, further cementing his legacy as a champion of peace and democracy.
