President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Tuesday as the special guest of honor for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Parade.
The event, themed “Reflecting on the Past; Inspiring the Future,” commenced at approximately 10:10 am with the national salute.
This year’s ceremony marks Tinubu’s second Independence Day observance as President. In a notable shift, the celebrations were moved back to the Villa from the traditional Eagle Square venue.
This decision, announced last October by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, aims to reflect a more subdued observance in light of the country’s current economic challenges.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Other attendees included the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, cabinet members, former presidents and vice presidents, and representatives from the diplomatic corps
