Tinubu Seeks Media Support for Tax Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian media to play a key role in supporting his administration’s tax reforms, which aim to enhance fiscal sustainability and boost economic growth. Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement session in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that the success of the reforms relies heavily on public understanding and cooperation, which the media can help cultivate.

The president explained that his government is working to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, broaden the revenue base, and eliminate loopholes that have hindered effective taxation. He noted that without improved revenue generation, achieving national development goals such as infrastructure development, social welfare, and poverty alleviation would remain difficult.

Tinubu appealed to media professionals to use their platforms to educate Nigerians on the importance of paying taxes and supporting the reform process. He stressed that misinformation and resistance to the reforms could derail efforts to position the economy on a more sustainable path.

The president also assured citizens that the reforms would be implemented fairly and transparently. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to using generated revenue efficiently for the benefit of all Nigerians, adding that collaboration with stakeholders, including the media, is key to achieving these goals.
