Tinubu to Attend Faye’s Inauguration as Senegalese President

President Bola Tinubu is billed to attend the inauguration of Bassirou Faye as the president of Senegal.

In a statement on Monday, Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, said Tinubu would depart Abuja on Tuesday for Dakar, capital of Senegal and venue of the inauguration.

Ngelale said the president’s visit is on the invitation of Senegal.

Faye, 44, won more than 54 percent of votes cast in the country’s delayed presidential poll.

Last week, Senegal’s constitutional council affirmed the presidential election victory of the opposition candidate.

“President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other regional leaders to witness the inauguration at Diamniadio Exhibition Centre on Tuesday,” the statement reads.

The president will be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and other senior government officials.”

The spokesperson said Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the inauguration.

Senegal is the fifth African state President Tinubu will be visiting since assuming office 10 months ago, and his 17th foreign destination.
