Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa has openly shared her desire to remarry, calling marriage “one of the most beautiful institutions” despite its inherent challenges.
In a recent podcast interview , the 40-year-old actress discussed her views on relationships and the complexities of marriage.
Makinwa emphasized that contrary to popular belief, she does not harbor animosity towards men or view herself as a man-hating feminist. Reflecting on her past marriage to businessman Maje Ayida, she shared, “I see marriage like the relationship between siblings. At first, it’s all excitement matching pajamas, late-night chats but eventually, reality sets in, and you start to crave your space.”
She candidly described her emotional rollercoaster during her marriage, saying, “There were days I couldn’t wait to share my experiences with my ex-husband, and other days I felt like I was in hell. It didn’t work out, but I still believe in the institution of marriage. I do want to get married again.”
While Makinwa noted that it hasn’t happened yet, she remains hopeful and patient. “Maybe it’s not God’s time yet. Whenever He is ready, I just hope I am not wrinkled,” she joked.
Recently, rumors circulated that Makinwa had secretly married her longtime partner, Farouk Umar. However, she quickly debunked these claims, clarifying that they are “just besties” and that the alleged wedding was simply a thanksgiving event.
With her optimistic outlook, Makinwa continues to embrace the possibilities of love and partnership in the future.
