Jordan Torunarigha has been drafted into Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, replacing the injured Nathan Tella.
Tella, who was included in the initial squad, has had to withdraw due to fitness concerns. The winger, who was on the bench for Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, was later confirmed by manager Xabi Alonso as not fully fit to participate in the upcoming fixtures.
“Camp Update: Joshua Torunarigha has been called to replace injured Nathan Tella. We wish Nathan a quick recovery,” the Super Eagles announced on their official X account Thursday.
Torunarigha, 27, returns to the national team after last featuring for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defender, who has one cap for the Super Eagles, will now hope to make an impact in the crucial qualifiers for next year’s World Cup.
