Tourism, Transport Ministers Set to Enhance Domestic Tourism through Road, Rail Infrastructure

To enhance domestic tourism through road and rail infrastructure, Lola Ade-John and Alhaji Alkali, the Ministers of Tourism and Transport, respectively, say they are establishing a joint committee.

A statement from the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday noted that Ade-John met with Alkali in Abuja to discuss Nigeria’s available transport infrastructure and explore how Nigerian tour operators can leverage these facilities to boost their businesses.

The two ministers agreed to form a Joint Committee, which will include Nigerian Tour Operators, to develop a practical framework for implementing an effective domestic tourism initiative in the country.

Last week, Ade-John also engaged with the Minister of Interior to address visa accessibility for African travelers coming to Nigeria, collaborating with the Minister and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to resolve visa-on-arrival issues. High visa costs have hindered tourism growth, and the minister’s efforts in this area have been praised by event organizers.

This emerging advocacy marks a new phase of engagement with the tourism industry, with Ade-John having attended more tourism events in one year than many previous ministers did in four. She has committed to working with other related ministries and departments to address the challenges faced by stakeholders in the tourism sector.
