A devastating accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including three children and seven adults, on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 11 PM in the Abule Osun area when a Toyota Sienna vehicle, overloaded with passengers, collided with a stationary truck.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the investigation indicated that the Siena was traveling at high speed without accounting for the granite-laden truck, which was parked and obstructing half of the roadway.
Oke-Osanyintolu stated, “On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the Toyota Sienna, registration number BDG 342 FS, was involved in a collision with a parked SHACMAN truck.” He explained that the truck, laden with granite, had taken up significant space on the road, leading to the tragic crash.
The accident resulted in the loss of 10 lives, including : Three male adults,Four female adults, Two female children, One male child.
Three other individuals sustained injuries in the collision. The injured were promptly rescued by officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and transported to a nearby hospital.
LASEMA’s team arrived shortly after the FRSC to assist with the situation. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that the deceased would be handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for the necessary procedures. The accident’s Toyota Sienna was recovered and towed to the FRSC station for further examination.
