Trial for Mohbad’s Death Set to Begin Amid Forensic Investigations

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), has announced that the trial concerning the death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, will commence soon.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Pedro explained that the delays in court proceedings were due to an extensive and prolonged investigation, which included forensic and toxicology analyses.

He stated, “A full-proof investigation is essential to secure a conviction in court.” Notably, the forensic investigations were conducted in the United States because the Lagos DNA and Forensic Centre was destroyed during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.

Pedro confirmed that the necessary reports have now been received, and the autopsy findings are currently with the Lagos State Pathologist and the Coroner magistrate.

Pedro also highlighted that the delay has been partly caused by Mohbad’s family expressing a desire to conduct their own independent autopsy. Despite this, he assured the public that the trial will soon proceed, emphasizing that justice will be served in this matter.

In addition, Pedro discussed other high-profile cases, including that of notorious kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Nwamadike, also known as Evans, whose plea bargain agreement is awaiting review by a panel. He also mentioned the case of female lawyer Otike-Odibi, whose prosecution has faced setbacks due to lost documents from the Igbosere High Court fire during the protests, but he assured that the case would be prosecuted diligently.
