Former US President Donald Trump announced that he will purchase a “brand new Tesla” to show support for his top campaign donor and advisor, Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
In a post on his Truth Social platform just after midnight on Tuesday, Trump praised Musk, calling him a “fantastic job” for his efforts to support the nation. “To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our Nation, and he is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” Trump wrote.
He went on to accuse the “Radical Left Lunatics” of attempting to boycott Tesla, calling it an illegal and coordinated effort to harm both Musk and his company, which he described as one of the world’s great automakers. Trump expressed his intent to buy a Tesla the following morning as a show of confidence and support for Musk, asserting that the tech mogul should not be punished for using his skills to help “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
Musk, the world’s richest person, responded to Trump’s post on his X platform, thanking the former president for his support.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has given Musk a key role in reducing federal government spending and slashing agency workforces as the head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). However, DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts have faced growing resistance, including protests, court rulings, and pressure from lawmakers.
While Musk has Trump’s backing, polling shows that the tech billionaire is unpopular with many Americans, particularly due to his cuts to government budgets and his controversial ties to Trump. Additionally, Tesla investors are concerned about potential boycotts and backlash from consumers.
Some Tesla owners have even placed bumper stickers on their vehicles reading, “Bought before Elon went crazy,” expressing their dissatisfaction with Musk’s actions and political affiliations.
